- Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
This extensive site by the primary federal agency tasked with
responding to and helping communities recover from disaster, provides information on current disasters,
preparedness and mitigation actions, training opportunities, flood maps, a kid's section, a virtual
reference library, and information for disaster victims on filing for benefits and recovering from
disasters.
- South Dakota Office of Emergency Management (0EM)
This site details the many activities and programs on-going
in the State of South Dakota.
Plus, it paints a map of where SD emergency management regional coordinators are located.
- National Weather Service - Rapid City. This site provides excellent information on the weather found in the
Black Hills and the rest of our area.
You can get daily forecasts, regional forecasts, climatological data, and weather preparedness
information.
- Doppler Radar - Rapid City Area. This link gives the viewer a look at the
weather over our entire region.
- American Red Cross.
This site provides information on all Red Cross services, its chapters, health
and safety services, and disaster-specific preparedness information.
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This site
provides access to EPA documents describing environmental information, as well as links to
Information Locators that can be obtained from the EPA and related organizations.
- Humane Society of the
United States. This site provides information on how pet and animal owners should prepare for disasters.
- Internal Revenue Service. This site includes information on what casualty losses can be
deducted on Federal income tax returns for the year of the loss or through immediate amendment
to the previous year's return.
- Mennonite Disaster Services
Volunteers who help clean-up and repair following natural disasters
and who work closely with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Red Cross in responding
to disasters in North America.
- National Voluntary Organizations Active in
Disasters (NOVAD) NOVAD coordinates planning efforts by many
voluntary organizations responding to disasters. Member organizations provide more effective and
less duplicative efforts in service by getting together before disasters strike.
- Natural Hazards Center at the
University of Colorado This is a national and international
clearinghouse for information on natural hazards and human adjustments to hazards and disasters.
- Small Business Administration (SBA)
The SBA serves as the Federal disaster bank in the wake of
disasters, offering home disaster loans, business physical disaster loans, and economic injury
disaster loans.
- U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
During disaster response and recovery, the Corps of Engineers
conducts power generation, provides ice and potable water, emergency repair to buildings, conducts
damage assessments, levee repairs, and provides sandbags and debris clearance.
