Appointments are for a three year period. The Board is an administrative decision-making board which conducts hearings as needed to determine if a patient is in need of emergency commitment. To apply, applicants should provide a written summary containing the following information: 1. State the applicant’s full name and home address, telephone number and county of residence. 2. Please state if the applicant has ever been convicted, pled guilty or pled no contest to any violation of federal law or regulation, or a felony violation of State law. 3. Please state if the applicant is a United States Citizen or authorized to work in the U.S. under a work visa, and identify their business, employment or office address. 4. Please give a summary of the applicant’s education, confirming graduation from high school, completion of any post secondary programs, listing any college degrees earned or post graduate programs completed. 5. Please state if applicant has been in the past or presently is an employee or consultant with any county, state or federal government program. If yes to any of these, please give the approximate dates of such employment, job title, and brief description of your work responsibilities. 6. Identify and explain any past employment or other work/participation by the applicant in the mental health care field, in South Dakota or another state. 7. Please explain the applicant’s interest in appointment to this position and confirm that the applicant is a Pennington County resident. Include any prior experience, either personal or professional, which the applicant believes will assist in the role of member of the Board. In particular, include any past experience in participating in administrative decisions or being on a decision-making Board. 8. Presently, hearings are scheduled Monday through Friday commencing at 9:00 a.m. Applicants should identify at each day during the week when he/she could attend hearings, as needed. If applicants are able to attend hearings two or three times a week on a regular basis, that should be explained as well. 9. Each applicant should agree that because the Board proceedings are closed, they understand members of the Board are prohibited from discussing Board decisions with any non-board member. 10. Each applicant should acknowledge that they are willing to accept the responsibility to attend or complete required training before they begin their responsibilities on the board. 11. Each applicant should acknowledge that after appointment they understand that any compensation they receive would be established by the Board of County Commissioners, and payment practices will be subject to the policies of Board and the County Auditors Office.
