Major Projects

Pennington County Highway Department has developed a long-range Transportation Improvement Plan.

Rochford Road

The reconstruction of Rochford Road from Rochford South to Deerfield Road has been delayed due to environmental issues and the discovery of archeological sites within the project limits. The SD Department of Transportation has requested Pennington County to hire a consultant to evaluate the sites. Construction is not anticipated until late 2011.

Reservoir & Long View Road

The reconstruction of Reservoir Road from Highway 44 north to Twilight Drive, and Long View Road from Highway 44 east to Reservoir Road began in 2009. November 12, 2010 is the final completion date for the project.

Reservoir Road will be reconstructed from approximately 500’ north of the intersection of Hwy 44 north 1.2 miles to the intersection of Twilight Dr. Longview Road will also be reconstructed from 600’ east of the intersection of Hwy 44 east 0.4 miles to 500’ east of the intersection of Reservoir Road. Longview and Reservoir Roads will be widened to a 3-lane roadway section. Curb and gutter along with storm sewer upgrades will also be completed on both roads. In conjunction with the road reconstruction project, sanitary sewer and water utilities will be upgraded. This project also requires new drainage structures to be constructed to accommodate the Murphy and Hawthorne irrigation ditches that cross the project.

Phase 1 includes grading and interim surfacing on Reservoir Road from Hwy 44 north through the intersection of Longview Road and grading and permanent surfacing on Longview Road from Hwy 44 east to the intersection of Reservoir Road.

Phase 2 includes placing permanent surfacing on Reservoir Road from Hwy 44 to the intersection of Longview Road, grading and permanent surfacing on Longview east of Reservoir Road and grading and permanent surfacing on Reservoir Road from Longview Road to Twilight Dr.
