Careers

If you are looking for a challenging, exciting and rewarding career that really does count. Look no further!

9-1-1 Public Safety Telecommunicators are the FIRST RESPONDERS! In almost every emergency situation, 9-1-1 Telecommunicators are the first public safety works "on the scene". As a 9-1-1 Telecommunicator you will talk to people who have just been the victim of a crime or are reporting a crime. You will take the call from a frantic father reporting that his home is on fire. You will tell a mother how to clear her child's airway and save their life. You will calm and comfort the hurt, injured, and distraught. You will be a part of the team that arrests dangerous criminals.

This is the real thing, just like you have seen on the TV shows "Rescue 911", "COPS" and "Trauma".

Many times, it is the actions, quick thinking and training of a 9-1-1 telecommunicator that makes the difference between life and death.

Benefits include:

These are just some of the benefits of being a 9-1-1 Telecommunicator.

Persons interested in this career are encouraged to visit the communication center in Rapid City and observe 9-1-1 Telecommunicators in action. We recommend that you schedule an appointment to observe and allow at least 2 hours. When you come in, we will give you a headset, have you plug in with a 9-1-1 Telecommunicator and listen to 9-1-1 calls and police, fire and EMS radio traffic. Observing in this manner will convince you that this is the career for you!
